Within the framework of activities to strengthen international cooperation in the technology sector, on September 7, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) held a reception and working session with Prof. David Stork from Stanford University to discuss the development orientation of artificial intelligence (AI), scientific research, and future professional cooperation activities.

Attending the meeting on behalf of the Institute were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, President of the Institute; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence; Dr. Vu Hoai Nam, Head of the Department of Applied Artificial Intelligence and Head of the Youth Innovation Lab on Digital Technology; and Dr. Do Trung Anh, Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Prof. David Stork is a scientist with many contributions to the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence. He previously served as Chief Scientist at Ricoh Japan and currently teaches at Stanford University. He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, holds 64 US patents, and is a Fellow of IEEE, Optica, and IAPR.

At the reception, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac shared the Institute’s development orientation in the current period. Accordingly, despite being a young university, the Institute has gradually affirmed its position in the higher education system. It is currently in the group of 5 key universities and is the only university under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Institute currently trains about 30,000 students at its two campuses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The President of the Institute stated that in the orientation of promoting research, training, and developing technological products and solutions capable of creating practical impacts, the Institute focuses its resources on cutting-edge technology fields, with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Technology, and Cybersecurity being three crucial pillars.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong shared more about the Institute’s AI research capabilities in recent years, introducing outstanding results through research projects and published scientific works. These achievements serve as the foundation for PTIT to continue expanding cooperation with international scientists, universities, and research organizations, while simultaneously strengthening the connection between research and practical problems.

Based on the discussions regarding PTIT’s capabilities and research orientations, the two sides discussed several professional cooperation activities that could be implemented with the participation of Prof. David Stork.

Accordingly, the Professor is expected to participate in seminars, panel discussions, and specialized lectures at the Institute, focusing on sharing new trends in AI, machine learning, and computer vision with lecturers, researchers, and students. These activities are expected to create more opportunities for PTIT’s academic community to access new research issues and enhance direct exchange with international experts.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of Prof. David Stork providing consultancy for the research, investment, and development activities of the Institute’s Advanced AI Training Center; as well as contributing ideas to the AI Capacity Building Network initiative, thereby strengthening the connection between PTIT, expert networks, and international AI centers.

In the long term, PTIT and Prof. David Stork discussed maintaining professional cooperation, gradually expanding research and training activities in the field of AI. This could also serve as a basis for the two sides to further explore the possibility of developing unit-level cooperation with Stanford University in the field of artificial intelligence.

The working session contributes to expanding the Institute’s international academic connections, while creating additional opportunities for PTIT to access internationally experienced experts and promote research, training, and human resource development in cutting-edge technology fields.
